Camborne Youth raise £1,200 towards Belgium trip

Camborne's musical youngsters were out and about on Sunday raising funds for a trip to Belgium.

Camborne Youth Band began the day at Tesco Extra in Pool where they entertained shoppers, before moving on to their annual Brass On The Grass event.

Alan Pope, from Camborne Youth Band, said: "The whole day went really well and fortunately the weather held out and remained dry. At Tesco we also had a couple of exercise bikes set up and with members of the band doing 15-minute stints we covered 146 miles throughout the day."

"We managed to raise £1,200, which will go towards hopefully getting the band to Belgium for a First World War commemoration service."

Brass On The Grass also featured a variety of stalls and refreshments as well as a performance from everyone involved in the band, before the full Camborne Youth Band brought proceedings to a close.

Despite the impressive total raised, the band are still short of the desired figure needed for the trip due to a shortfall in grant money. They have organised a number of events to help make up the money, beginning with a performance at the Royal Cornwall Show on Saturday. Anybody interested in donating can write to CYB (Friends), Apartment 6, Artist Terrace, Heartlands, Pool, Redruth, TR15 3FE.
